Smash Cancer Mindy's Run Fundraiser 2026

Carstyn, a 9-year-old student at Alton, was diagnosed with a Sarcoma in May of 2021. In July of 2025, we came for our 3-month checkup, the doctors noticed some spots and decided to biopsy after watching them for some time. In August, we had a lymph node biopsy procedure, and they found thyroid cancer. The following month, Carstyn had a total thyroidectomy. In December, we had another PET Scan, and it showed there were still some lymph nodes that needed to be removed. When doing the scans to prepare for that procedure, they found a new lesion behind his right ear, close to the location of his original rhabdomyosarcoma. During a procedure to remove the other questionable lymph nodes, doctors took a small biopsy of the new lesion. The new spot came back related to the original diagnosis. We are now dealing with thyroid cancer as well as another sarcoma. Carstyn began chemotherapy February 1. Carstyn loves anything outdoors. He loves hunting and fishing with his family, superheroes, and Mario Kart. He is very laid back and has taken this journey so well. He is our little hero! Carstyn has one little sister who adores him. Emalyn is 7 years old and has had to spend a lot of time away from brother, mommy, and daddy. We are so thankful for our family who has kept her entertained and cared for her during this difficult time. In 2015, our family grieved the loss of our 5-month-old daughter, Londyn, to SIDS. We get through each day with prayer, love, and most importantly God. We know through Him; we can make it through another difficult journey.
